Frequently Asked Question

What is LT NetID?
Last Updated 2 years ago

Your NetID is a set of unique credentials assigned to you. These credentials are originated for an Active Directory Server and are federated in almost every service and app Laurens Technologies offers. With this implementation, a user must only remember one set of credentials to gain access to applications, sites, services, and more. With this one set of credentials also comes the worry of “what if someone gains access to my NetID credentials, won’t they have access to everything?”. This is false. Much more than just your NetID is needed to access almost anything. Because there is only one password you need to remember we enforce an extremely strong password policy and force the use of a very long, variety of special characters, and frequently forced password changes. Because this is just basic password hygiene, MFA has also been implemented and enforced into almost every service. This is done by the use of physical security keys, or access codes that are generated by an authenticator app, no SMS or voice verification is used due to security reasons. On top of all this is geo-location detection to detect unusual activity and lock down your account. VPN and proxy detection is also implemented, along with checks against lengthy lists of IPs from previously failed logins, or otherwise nefarious IPs. Device signatures are also used to check if a user’s login or other behavior is normal, and if not, stop the user, and lock down the account immediately. The icing on the cake of this security penthouse is of course frequent, full system and audit logs scans and sweeps. This step is completed both by computers and also real-life humans, two brains are better than one, and one thing might not see something while another does.
